| Overview | Attractions | Truman Sites | Frontier Trails Sites | Independence Square Places to Go - Santa-Cali-Gon Days® FestivalEach fall, more than 225,000 visitors descend on the Historic Independence Square for the area's premier Labor Day weekend festival. Santa-Cali-Gon is a free-admission, four-day festival featuring tons of family activities including a juried arts and crafts show, huge carnival midway, and national country music. Presented by the Independence Chamber of Commerce, the festival also serves as a major fundraiser for more than 70 Independence area not-for-profit organizations who make the majority of their budgets selling food to festival-goers. The Santa-Cali-Gon Days® Festival celebrates Independence's heritage as the starting point of the Santa Fe, California and Oregon trails. The 2010 Santa-Cali-Gon Days® Festival will be held September 3 through 6. |
