Sports and Entertainment

Major league sports are just minutes away at the Harry S. Truman Sports Complex, home of the Kansas City Royals major league baseball club, Kansas City Chiefs professional football team, and the Kansas City Wizards professional outdoor soccer team. Kemper Arena, located in Kansas City's historic river district, features the American Royal.

The Missouri Mavericks of the Central Hockey League call Independence home! Mavericks games are played at the city's brand new Independence Events Center. Completed in November 2009, the state-of-the-art, multi-purpose facility features an intimate arena with 5,800 fixed seats, 25 luxury suites, 2,000 free paved parking spaces, a first-class bar/grill, and a community ice rink. The Independence Events Center also hosts more than 100 events annually including concerts, trade shows, festivals, community ceremonies and other professional and high school sporting events. For more information, call (816) 795-7577.

The Kansas Speedway racetrack, located about 20 miles west of Independence, features NASCAR, Indy, Busch Series and Nextel Cup races. Other neighboring entertainment complexes include riverboat casinos, Kansas City Power and Light District, and the new Kansas City Sprint Center.
