Chamber Committees

The Chamber brings together businesses of all types and sizes, to reach a common goal: Improve the economy and quality of life in Independence. Through the following four Divisions the Chamber is able to achieve its goals. Four Divisions govern specific Chamber events and initiatives while being run by Division chairs.

Economic Development Division:
Chair: Cheryl Carpenter-Davis

  • Business & Technology Expo: Laura Vernon
    Plans and hosts the annual Business and Technology Expo held in March. The event includes a luncheon and a five hour business expo.
  • Choices Presenters
    Present programs dealing primarily with motivation, time management, academic decisions and career consequences to area 8th and 9th graders.

Community Events Division:
Chair: Donna Pittman

  • Golf Classic Committee: Loretta Polzin
    Plans and conducts an annual golf outing for members
  • Halloween Parade Committee: Dixie Lee
    Plans and conducts the annual Halloween Parade which is scheduled for the last Saturday in October.
  • Santa-Cali-Gon Days Festival: Terri Steele
    Work in various capacities throughout the Labor Day weekend festival, such as information booth, and beer garden.
  • Youth L.E.A.D. Steering Committee: Nancy Eppert
    Plans and conducts the Youth L.E.A.D. program, involving 30 high school students. The program is a shortened version of the L.E.A.D. Independence program and runs from September through February. Committee members mush be an adult L.E.A.D. graduate, or school official.
  • Adult L.E.A.D. Steering Committee: Stephanie Smith
    Plans and conducts the Adult L.E.A.D. program. The program runs from October through May meeting every third Thursday of each month for eight hours.

Governmental Affairs Division:
Chair: Johnathan Zerr

  • Governmental Affairs Committee
    Monitors, recommends and carries out policies relevant to local, county, state and federal government. Plans the Legislative Briefings

Membership Division:
Chair: Doug Williams

  • Ambassadors - Co-Chairs: Sarah Johnson and Tom Waters
    Involved with member development and public relations. Ambassadors provide referrals, welcome new businesses to the community and check in on current members.
  • Presidents Club - Membership recruitment
  • Program Committee
    Plans the programs for the general membership luncheon meetings and special seminars
  • Annual Banquet Co-Chairs: Roberta Coker and Judy Forrester
    Plans and hosts the annual banquet hosted held in January.
