The Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies and development (IESD) has had a long-standing relationship with the Independence Chamber of Commerce. When space became available, the Chamber offered this space for an even greater presence of UCM within the Independence community to provide greater benefits to the Chamber membership and to the Independence community at large. UCM plans to expand its relationships with both the Chamber membership and the Metropolitan Community college programs at Blue River.

IESD plans to offer expanded on-site business counseling, consulting and workshops and to host regular events. Several other UCM entities plan to have a regular presence in the space including Workforce Central, Enrollment Management, and the KC Initiative through the College of Education. Below is a summary of each of the initial players from UCM.

Enrollment Management

Kansas City Initiative

The Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies provides entrepreneurial development services and technical support to technology-based businesses, high-growth enterprises, entrepreneurs and established small businesses. To act as a catalyst between the resources of the university community and the opportunities of the business community.

The Institute provides educational programs in finance, marketing, advanced manufacturing and intellectual property. Services provided range from one-on-one counseling to customized training in technology and business skills. Experts located bon on- and off-campus provide consulting, training, and research assistance as needs are identified. These programs and services support the local businesses as well as have a direct positive impact on the Missouri Economy.

Workforce Central at UCM provides training, certificate programs, and development services for new-hire and incumbent workforces across the state of Missouri. Programs are delivered on our campuses in Warrensburg and Lee's Summit, as well as where the workforce development needs of our partners and the community exists.

Workforce Central specializes in learning solutions, creating opportunities for individuals and organizations to succeed in a fast-paced, ever-changing knowledge economy. We focus on finding new ways to connect employers to training and services that will more effectively address their talent and organizational development needs. We also assist individuals in gaining the knowledge and skills needed to become effective in a new career or competitive in their existing one.

Enrollment Management

Red is much more than a color, and the University of Central Missouri is much more than a college. For nearly 150 years, students have chosen red to learn, live and lead in Missouri, and around the world.

The tradition of "Education for Service" has gone unchanged on our campus since its founding, and remains ingrained in who we are today.

Choose red to shape the world of tomorrow. It starts with an idea and grows with the help of knowledgeable teachers who inspire you to be the change maker.

Choosing red at UCM means you are choosing to be a leader among followers. The future is wide open for those who have the courage to seek it, test it, construct it and teach it.

When your future is on the line, when you want to make the difference, choose red.

Kansas City Initiative

The purpose of the Kansas City Initiative is to recruit and train a new generation of teachers who are better prepared to help students be ready for success in college and career fields.

To provide a better-educated workforce and serve Kansas City students who want to become teachers, but have not typically been able to attend UCM's Warrensburg campus. To increase the number of highly qualified teachers available for the KC area and to provide relevant, hands-on experience for pre-service teachers in urban settings.

The University of Central Missouri was founded as a Teacher's College in 1871 and continues to embrace the motto "Education for Service". We have a long, strong history of quality programs and graduates. There are more practicing educators in Missouri from UCM than any other university in the state. The College of Education has an established presence in KC through sponsorship of nine charter schools, and the UCM Lee's Summit Center, which serves the greater KC area. We have established a close working partnership with MCC to enable students to easily complete a four-year degree.
